5 Dead, Over 30 Injured As Goods Train Rams Kanchenjunga Express in WB’s Darjeeling

Kolkata: Five persons lost their lives and at least 30 others were injured when a goods train rammed into the Kanchenjunga Express train in Darjeeling district in West Bengal.

According to reports, two coaches of Kanchenjunga Express were derailed after the goods train hit it from the rear.

The two rear compartments were derailed under the impact of the collision from behind by the locomotive of the goods train near Rangapani station, about seven km from North Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri station

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a post on X, said “Shocked to learn, just now, about a tragic train accident, in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district.”

The 13174 Kanchanjunga Express was on its way to Sealdah from Agartala when the accident occurred at around 9 am.
