5 Die as Truck Runs Over marriage Procession in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: At least five labourers who were carrying decorative lights in a marriage procession died when they were run over by a truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen town on Monday night. Eleven others were injured in the accident. They were admitted to a nearby district hospital.

The ill-fated marriage procession was passing from a road in Sultanpur when the truck rammed into the procession and crushed the five persons to death.

Police have seized the truck. But its driver is absconding.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver lost control of the speeding vehicle at a sharp turn on the road and crushed the marriage procession.

All the deceased were identified as labourers who were carrying lights in the marriage procession.

Police are trying to arrest the accident-causing driver.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his condolences and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each for the next kin of the deceased.
