6 Disqualified Himachal MLAs Move Supreme Court Against Their Disqualification

New Delhi: Six Congress MLAs, who were disqualified following their cross-voting in the recently held Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh, moved the Supreme Court on Tuesday against their disqualification.

These former MLAs filed a petition before the apex court against the February 29 decision of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania.

Defying the party whip, these Congress MLAs voted in favour of the BJP nominee in the Rajya Sabha polls, later abstained from voting on the Budget. The ruling called for their disqualification on this ground.

With these six disqualifications, the strength of the Himachal Assembly went down to 62 from 68. The number of Congress MLAs also got reduced to 34 from 40.
