All 11 Convicts of Bilik Bano Case Surrender to Return to Jail

Ahmedabad: All 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case surrendered at the Godhra sub jail in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district to return back to imprisonment. They had to obey the deadline set by the Supreme Court for their surrender.

According to Godhra jail authorities, these 11 convicts surrendered before jail authorities before midnight of January 21, which was the deadline set for them to surrender.

On January 8, the Supreme Court rejected the remission granted by the Gujarat government to the 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case. The top court slammed the state for being “complicit” with an accused and abusing its discretion.

These convicts were released from prison prematurely on Independence Day in 2022.

On Friday the apex court rejected their pleas for grant of more time to surrender.

Bilkis Bano was 21 years old and five months pregnant when she was gang-raped by these persons in February 2002. Seven of her family members including her three-year-old daughter were killed.
