Auto-Rickshaw Driver Murdered Near Polling Booth in Bargarh Dist

Bargarh: An auto-rickshaw driver identified as Biswanath Mirdha was attacked and murdered by a group of armed men near a polling booth in Sarsara village under Bargarh Sadar police station limits in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Monday morning.

According to reports, some persons holding sharp weapons allegedly tried to terrorize voters, while polling was underway at a booth in the Government Primary School in the Sarsara village.

Biswanath, who was involved in transporting voters to the polling station in his auto-rickshaw, protested against the misdeed of the miscreants. The armed men allegedly thrashed up the auto-rickshaw driver and one of them attacked him with a sharp weapon.

Seriously injured Biswanath was rushed to a local medical centre, where doctors declared him dead.

After receiving information about the incident, IG Himanshu Lal and Bargarh SP Prahallad Sai Meena rushed to the spot. They managed to pacify the protesting crowd at the spot. The body of the deceased was seized and sent for post-mortem.
