Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Resigns, Leaves The Country

While Bangladesh is embroiled in violence, media reports stated that its Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and left the country on Monday. According to Prothom Alo newspaper, Hasina took off in a military helicopter to India.

Media reports quoting sources said that Hasina and her sister were on Monday taken to a ‘safe shelter’ away from her official residence before she left the country.

On Monday, during the fresh outbreak of violence in Bangladesh, at least six people died. It followed a day after the ‘Long March to Dhaka’ when 100 people died in fierce clashes between the ruling party supporters and demonstrators demanding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.
