BJP’s Surama Padhi Files Nomination for Post of Speaker of Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Ranpur MLA and veteran BJP leader Surama Padhy filed her nomination papers for the post of Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

During the filing of her nomination papers, she was accompanied by Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CMs KV Singhdeo, Pravati Parida and other senior MLAs of the BJP.

Surama Padhy, aged 67, was selected by the BJP legislative party as the candidate for the Speaker’s post in Odisha’s 17th Assembly.

She first won from the Ranpur Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket in 2004. She has also been a Minister of State with independent charge for the Cooperation department during the BJD-BJP coalition government in Odisha from 2004 to 2009.
