BCCI Names Revised Squad for 5th Test vs England: Jasprit Bumrah Returns, KL Rahul Ruled Out

Dharamsala: In a bid to bolster their lineup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced revisions to India’s squad for the fifth and final Test against England in Dharamsala. Jasprit Bumrah makes a comeback after being rested for the fourth Test in Ranchi to manage his workload, likely replacing Akash Deep in the XI.

According to BCCI’s official release, Bumrah, who was given a break for the Ranchi Test, will rejoin the squad for the final encounter in Dharamsala. Meanwhile, KL Rahul, whose fitness was under scrutiny, has been sidelined for the last Test as he continues his recovery from a right quad injury, receiving specialized treatment in London.

Rajat Patidar, who filled in for Rahul in the last three Tests, might make way for Devdutt Padikkal, given his lacklustre performance with a highest score of 32 in six innings. Padikkal is set to become India’s fifth debutant in the series.

Off-spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar has been released from the squad to participate in the Ranji Trophy semi-final, with no contention for selection due to the presence of Ashwin, Jadeja, and Yadav.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami, who underwent surgery for his right heel problem on February 26, is progressing well and will soon commence rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

With India already leading the series 3-1, victory in the final Test will further solidify their position in the World Test Championship points table.

India’s updated squad for the 5th Test: Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Devdutt Padikkal, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep.
