IT Dept Ramps Up Cash Counting Efforts as Seizures in Congress MP Raid Exceed ₹290 Cr

Bhubaneswar: Income Tax (IT) raids at properties associated with Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu are ongoing, with additional resources deployed to expedite the counting of seized cash. Officials suggest that the amount seized could surpass Rs 290 crore, marking a record haul for the IT department in a single operation.

Initially, over 30 officers and bank staff were engaged in counting the seized money. To accelerate the process, the IT department introduced 40 cash-counting machines and enlisted additional staff. Despite these efforts, a substantial amount of cash remains to be counted, prompting the authorities to bring in more machines and manpower.

Visuals from the operation depict officials counting bundles of cash recovered from Dheeraj Sahu’s properties. In response to the situation, the Congress has distanced itself from the MP, emphasizing no connection to his business dealings. AICC General Secretary Communications Jairam Ramesh stated that only Sahu can explain the significant cash amounts found by the income-tax authorities.

Simultaneously, Income Tax Department investigators are recording statements from various company officials and others linked to the case.
