Chinese Funding Row: Raids on Journalists of NewsClick

New Delhi: Raids were conducted by Delhi police’s special cell at the places of news portal NewsClick and its journalists on Tuesday morning.

In the past, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted raids at the firm’s premises probing its sources of funding.

During the raid, the police took dump data of laptops and mobile phones of some journalists of NewsClick into its custody.

In August, the New York Times reported that NewsClick was among the organisations that received funding from American millionaire Neville Roy Singham, who allegedly ran networks to push Chinese propaganda globally.

The economic offences wing of Delhi Police had in 2021 registered a case to probe funding of the portal following which the ED had registered a case and attached some assets.

It is being reported that some journalists linked to the news portal have been detained and some were being raided.
