CoBRA Commando Shoots Himself with AK-47 in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Inspector Safi Akhtar of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a jungle warfare unit of the CRPF, committed suicide on Friday by shooting himself with his AK-47 service rifle in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday.

He took the drastic decision at around 11am at the headquarters of the 170th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Bijapur town.

The CRPF and its elite unit CoBRA are deployed in Chhattisgarh for anti-Maoist operations.

Seriously injured Akhtar was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead.

Akhtar was posted in the Mokur camp of CoBRA. He had reached Bijapur to leave for Delhi on leave.

He left no suicide note. It is suspected that some family issues may be the reason behind his suicide.
