Congress Changes Candidates for 5 Odisha Assembly Seats; Names Nilgiri Candidate

Bhubaneswar: Congress on Sunday announced its candidate for the Nilgiri Assembly seat and made changes to nominees for five other Assembly constituencies in Odisha.

Akshaya Acharya has been nominated to contest from the Nilgiri assembly constituency in Balasore district, as confirmed by a press release from the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

In addition to this, the party has made changes to its candidates for Jalwswar, Bari, Athamallik, Athagarh, and Puri Assembly seats. Former Minister Debasis Nayak, who recently joined Congress, will now contest from the Bari Assembly seat. Nayak’s switch from BJP to Congress came after he was denied a ticket by BJP, where he had served as a four-time MLA.

Furthermore, the party has replaced candidates in other constituencies: Sudarshan Das will replace Debi Prasanna Chand in Jaleswar, Himanshu Chaulia will stand in place of Bijayananda Chaulia in Athamalik, Sudarshan Sahoo replaces Maheboob Ahemad Khan in Athagarh, and Uma Ballav Rath takes the ticket from Sujit Mohapatra for the Puri Assembly segment.

It’s worth noting that Congress named Jay Narayan Patnaik as its candidate for the Puri Lok Sabha seat, following Sucharita Mohanty’s withdrawal from the race due to a fund crunch.
