Cyclone ‘Michaung’ to Form Over Bay of Bengal in 48 hours, Odisha Fishermen Alerted

Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea has transformed into a well-marked low-pressure area, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday. It is forecast that the system may move in a west-northwest direction and intensify into a Depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 30. Then it may evolve into a cyclonic storm ‘Michaung’ over the Southwest and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.

Fishermen off east coast of India, from north Tamil Nadu to Odisha have been advised to return to the coast by 1st December.

Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued warnings to fishermen and asked them to not venture into the sea.

According to the SRC, the wind speed is likely to reach 50 to 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on December 1 and the sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough.

According to the IMD forecast, several places in coastal Odisha are likely to receive heavy rainfall on November 29-30.
