Death Toll in Puri Chandan Yatra Explosion Rises to 8 As Another Injured Dies  

Bhubaneswar: With the death of another injured at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, the death toll in the Puri Chandan Yatra fireworks explosion rose to eight.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) had informed that 22 persons injured in this mishap on May 29 were undergoing treatment in different Hospitals. The state government has directed the Puri Collector to pay Rs 4 lakh as  ex-gratia assistance to the next of kin of each deceased person.

A total of 30 persons received severe burn injuries after a pile of crackers exploded during the Chandan Yatra celebration in Narendra Puskarini on May 29.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced that the cost of the treatment of the injured would be borne by the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
