Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely Resigns, Citing Interference & AAP Alliance

New Delhi: Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely has tendered his resignation, citing continuous interference from the party’s general secretary-in-charge, Deepak Babaria.

In his resignation letter addressed to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely expressed feeling “handicapped” and unable to fulfill his duties effectively.

Lovely highlighted instances where numerous Delhi Congress leaders raised objections to Babaria’s management of state affairs. However, he indicated being pressured to dismiss dissenting leaders critical of Babaria’s leadership.

Moreover, Lovely mentioned the contentious alliance between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, which he asserted was opposed by the entire state unit. He emphasized the unit’s disagreement with aligning with a party founded on allegations of corruption against Congress.

“The Delhi Congress Unit was against forming an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of levelling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress party, and in turn, whose half of the cabinet ministers are in jail on corruption charges,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

Despite reservations, Lovely affirmed his compliance with the party’s decision, even going as far as visiting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence following his arrest.
