Centre Ordered to Decide on AAP Office Space Allotment by July 25

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has granted the Centre an extension until July 25 to decide on allocating office space to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in light of its national party status. This decision comes after the Centre requested additional time, citing the extensive task of arranging accommodations for parliamentarians.

The court’s ruling follows a previous six-week deadline set on June 5, which was due to expire. AAP’s legal representation opposed the extension, highlighting the Supreme Court’s August 10 deadline for vacating their current Rouse Avenue office. This office space was originally allocated for the Delhi High Court’s expansion.

Justice Sanjeev Narula, while acknowledging the “substantial time” already provided, agreed to a limited extension. The court emphasized that no further delays would be entertained, expecting a final decision by the new deadline.

This development stems from AAP’s legal efforts to secure either land for constructing their office or a temporary housing unit, reflecting their status as a recognized national party. The court previously affirmed AAP’s entitlement to office space, similar to other national parties, subject to standard fees and conditions.
