Demand for District Status from 25 Places in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Inhabitants of 25 places in Odisha have sent petitions to the Odisha government seeking district status, said Revenue Minister Sudam Marndi in the state Assembly.

He informed this through a written reply to a question raised by BJP MLA Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday.

According to the Revenue Minister, petitions for a maximum of four new districts have been received from Ganjam district alone. They are Ghumusar, Rushikulya, Berhampur and Bhanjanagar.

Similarly, petitions have been received to create West Mayurbhanj, Rairangpur and Khiching in Mayurbhanj as new districts.

From Angul district, petitions have been received to give district status to Talcher, Pallahara and Athamalik.

The other places for which petitions have been received for district status are Padampur (Bargarh), Dharmagarh (Kalahandi), Bonai and Rourkela (Sundargarh), Titlagarh and Kantabanji (Bolangir), Bhubaneswar (Khordha), Chandikhol and Athagarh (Cuttack), Kuchinda (Sambalpur), Baliguda (Kandhamal), Anandapur (Keonjhar), Nilgiri and Soro (Balasore) and Gunupur (Rayagada).
