Depression to Turn Severe Cyclonic Storm, But No Major Impact in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards and it is now a well-marked low pressure over the west-central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal, stated the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.

As per reports, it will have no impact on Odisha. According to the IMD, this system is expected to continue to move northeastwards and concentrate into a Depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal by May 24 morning.

“Thereafter, it is very likely to continue to move northeastwards, intensify further into a cyclonic storm over east-central Bay of Bengal by 25th May morning,” IMD Bhubaneswar scientist, Umashankar Dash posted on X.

According to the IMD, because of it districts of North Odisha may experience heavy rainfall on May 26 and May 27. Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely along & off Bangladesh, West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha coasts from 25th May evening.

As per the IMD, the maximum temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees during the next 3 days and no large change is expected thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.
