Dissolution of Odisha Assembly Recommended by State Cabinet

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet held its last meeting in a virtual mode on Monday, and decided to recommend the state governor for the dissolution of the 16th Legislative Assembly.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik chaired this virtual cabinet meeting. This decision of the state cabinet to dissolve the Assembly came a day before the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections on Tuesday.

The decision of the state cabinet to recommend the dissolution of the Assembly and declare the end of the present government’s tenure is a formality before the declaration of election results as per the provisions in the Constitution.

As per the norms, the state cabinet has to pass a resolution to dissolve the Assembly after the declaration of election results. Then the ministers in the cabinet hand over their resignations to the Chief Minister, who recommends the Governor to start the procedure for formation of the new government.
