EC Revokes Suspension of Telangana DGP, Who Greeted Revanth Amidst Counting of Votes

New Delhi: The Election Commission withdrew the suspension order of former Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar on Tuesday.

Anjani Kumar was suspended on December 3 for violating the code of conduct on election results day as he met and greeted  Congress leader Revanth Reddy (now Chief Minister), while the counting of votes was still continuing.

The Telangana DGP visited Revanth Reddy’s residence with a bouquet to congratulate him when counting trends hinted a Congress victory.

He was suspended when photos and videos of him handing a bouquet of flowers to Reddy went viral on social media. Congress formed a simple majority in Telangana to form its first government in the southern state. The Congress won 64 of 119 seats in the Telangana Assembly elections. The BRS won 39 seats, the BJP won 9 seats, the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won 7 seats and the CPI won 1 seat.
