Ex-Min Surendranath Naik Passes Away at 93, Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Condoles His Demise

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Minister Surendranath Naik passed away in the wee hours of Friday at the advanced age of 93.

This seven-time MLA from Kakatpur was suffering old-age-related ailments.

Inspired by former Odisha CM Biju Patnaik, he started his political career as the chairman of Astarang Panchayat Samiti from 1960 to 1967. In 1968, he was arrested for protesting a bus fare hike and again in 1975 under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA).

As minister, he was in charge of portfolios like agriculture, revenue, and education.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday condoled the demise of former Minister Surendranath Naik. In a statement, the Chief Minister said that the late Naik was a popular leader and an efficient administrator. He held a special place in the hearts of the common people. As a legislator and minister, he made significant contributions to the development of Odisha. His passing is a great loss for the state.

The CM offered his deep condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
