Father of Mahadev Betting App Scam Found Dead in Suspicious Condition

Raipur: Sushil Das (62), the father of Asim Das, named as an accused in the Mahadev betting app scam was found dead under suspicious conditions at a village in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district on Tuesday.

Sushil was missing for two days, and his body was found in a well at Achhoti village under Anda police station limits on Tuesday afternoon. Prima facie evidence hinted that it was a case of suicide.

The deceased’s son Asim Das, an alleged cash courier in the Mahavir betting app case was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The deceased was working as a security guard in a private company, and was missing since Sunday evening.

The body was sent for post-mortem and an investigation is on to ascertain the reason behind the death.

Asim Das along with a constable Bhim Singh Yadav, was arrested by the ED on November 3.

The ED claimed that Asim Das was arrested in Raipur Rs 5.39 crore in cash was recovered from him. According to the ED, Asim was allegedly sent by the Mahavir app promoters from the UAE “especially, to deliver a large amount of cash for electioneering expenses of the ruling Congress Party”.

“Asim Das has admitted that the seized funds were arranged by the Mahadev app promoters to be delivered to one politician ‘Baghel’ for upcoming election expenses in the state of Chhattisgarh,” the ED said in a statement issued before the Assembly election polling in Chhattisgarh.
