For 1st Time Hindu Woman files Nomination for 2024 Pakistan General Polls

Dr Saveera Parkash, a Hindu woman in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Buner district in Pakistan, has filed her nomination papers for a general seat in the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, reported the Dawn. She is said to be the first Hindu woman to come out to fight the general elections in the Islamic nation.

Parkash’s father, Oam Parkash, a retired doctor, is an active member of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). So, Parkash is also hopeful to get the PPP ticket.

Parkash, is a medical degree holder from the Abbottabad International Medical College. She is the general secretary of the PPP women’s wing in Buner.

Parkash told the Dawn that like her father she wanted to serve the area’s poor. She said she had submitted her nomination papers on December 23 (Friday).

Under recent amendments by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), mandatory inclusion of five per cent of women candidates in general seats is mandatory.
