Former Koraput MP Jayaram Pangi Joins Congress Leaving BRS

Bhubaneswar: Jayaram Pangi, a veteran political leader of south Odisha and former BJD MP from Koraput and ex-state minister, left the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) to join the Congress on Saturday.

Along with a group of supporters, he formally joined the Congress in Bhubaneswar in the presence of the Odisha state president of the party Sarat Pattanayak and other senior leaders including former PCC chiefs Niranjan Patnaik and Prasad Harichandan.

After joining the Congress, Pangi said, in the Congress fold he will strive to protect the rights of tribals. Congress hopes to strengthen its organization in the undivided Koraput district through the induction of Pangi.

In January 2023, Pangi, former Odisha CM Giridhar Gamang and his son Shishir Gamang joined BRS.

Pangi has represented the Pottangi assembly seat four times in the past. BJD ticket, Pangi had won from the Koraput Lok Sabha constituency in 2009. In 2017, he left the BJD to join the BJP on May 9, 2017.
