Hathras Stampede: Bhole Baba’s Lawyer Alleges Conspiracy, Claims ’10-12 People Sprayed Poison’

Hathras: Self-styled godman Bhole Baba’s lawyer AP Singh on Sunday made startling claims about the deadly stampede at a religious gathering in Hathras. The stampede, which occurred on July 2 during a ‘satsang’ organized by Bhole Baba, claimed the lives of 121 people, mostly women.

Singh stated that witnesses reported individuals releasing a toxic substance into the crowd, potentially triggering the stampede. The lawyer suggested a plot against Bhole Baba, citing his “growing popularity” as a possible motive. Anonymous witnesses have come forward, prompting calls for their security.

Nine arrests have been made so far, including the main organizer, Devprakash Madhukar. Hathras police are also investigating potential political involvements in funding the event. A government-appointed judicial commission will conduct inquiries, including issuing a public notice for evidence and testimonies.

The stampede occurred at a ‘satsang’ (spiritual discourse) led by Surajpal, also known as Narayan Sakar Hari or Bhole Baba. The event reportedly exceeded its permitted capacity of 80,000, with an estimated 2,50,000 attendees.
