Hemant Soren Takes Oath As Jharkhand CM For 3rd Time

Ranchi: Hemant Soren was sworn in as Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday evening, after spending 5 months in jail.

The fiasco began in January when he resigned just before his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate over a land scam case worth crores. In June, the High Court granted him bail, citing a lack of direct evidence against him.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at 5 pm at Raj Bhavan, with his father, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader and former Chief Minister Shibu Soren, present.

Hemant Soren had resigned five months ago to avoid being the first sitting Chief Minister to be arrested. In a video message on X, he criticized “arrogant people intoxicated with power” and expressed confidence in the support of the people of Jharkhand. “Today, the public opinion of the people of Jharkhand will rise again. Jai Jharkhand, Jai Hind,” he declared.

On Wednesday, Champai Soren resigned as Chief Minister. Following it, Hemant Soren, who is out on bail in a money laundering case, staked claim to form the government.

A JMM-led alliance delegation met Governor Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. The delegation included Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Congress president Rajesh Thakur, RJD minister Satyanand Bhokta and Kalpana Soren, the Gandey MLA and wife of Hemant Soren.
