Hemant Soren Arrested by Enforcement Directorate After Questioning in ‘Land Scam’

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren faced a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday night as he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at 9:33 PM, just minutes after submitting his resignation to the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi.

Earlier in the evening, Hemant had stepped down from his position amid a seven-hour interrogation by the ED regarding his alleged involvement in a land scam. The probe focused on uncovering a “significant racket involving the illegal transfer of land ownership by the mafia” in Jharkhand.

Following Hemant’s resignation, Jharkhand minister and the ruling coalition’s Chief Ministerial candidate, Champai Soren, has staked his claim to the Governor to establish a new government. He asserts the support of 43 MLAs for the formation of the new administration.
