4 Arrested at Bhubaneswar Airport with 12 Capsules of 3.77 Kg Gold Concealed in Rectum

Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Hyderabad zonal unit on Wednesday disclosed the seizure of 3.77 kg of smuggled gold worth Rs 2.79 crore at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. The action, based on specific intelligence, led to the arrest of four passengers arriving from Dubai on May 6.

Acting on tip-offs, DRI officials identified the suspicious passengers upon arrival. During questioning, it was revealed that all four individuals were attempting to smuggle gold in a paste form, cleverly concealed within their rectums. A thorough investigation resulted in the recovery of a total of 12 capsules containing the gold paste.

The confiscated capsules underwent a special heat treatment process to separate the gold compound. This process successfully yielded 3.77 kg of pure gold, estimated to be worth a staggering Rs 2.79 crore in the market.

The four passengers involved in the smuggling attempt have been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The DRI is conducting further investigations to unearth any potential smuggling network connected to this operation.
