Odisha: Man Beaten to Death for Opposing Relative’s Advances Towards Wife

Bhubaneswar: In a disturbing turn of events, a man was fatally assaulted allegedly for rebuffing romantic advances made by the accused towards his wife in Majhihara Mahala Sahi, near Bhubaneswar’s Balipatna.

The victim, identified as Akshay Majhi, was reportedly found severely injured in Nuasahi village on Sunday night. Despite being rushed to a nearby private hospital, Akshay succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.

The prime suspect, Dilu, is reported to be a distant relative of the deceased. According to reports, Akshay was found critically injured in Nuasahi village on Sunday night. He sustained severe head injuries and trauma to other parts of his body. Villagers rushed him to a nearby private hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday morning.

Investigation suggests a simmering conflict between the two. It is alleged that Dilu had been harassing Akshay’s wife, Shravani Majhi, with inappropriate messages. Ten days before the incident, Shravani informed Dilu after receiving an obscene message. This reportedly led to a heated argument between Akshay and Dilu.

The situation escalated further when Dilu allegedly assaulted Akshay at Balakati market a few days later. Police intervened and mediated a compromise between the two parties, urging them to avoid further confrontation.

However, the fragile truce shattered within a week. Shravani alleges that Dilu, along with his father Kalia, fatally attacked Akshay on Sunday night. “They beat him with wooden planks and stabbed him with a knife,” she stated.

The Balipatna police have detained two individuals in connection with the case and are currently interrogating them. Dilu remains absconding, and a manhunt is underway.
