Balangir: Titilagarh police have announced a breakthrough in the case of a 15-year-old boy who went missing from Belpada village in Odisha’s Balangir district. The police have arrested the boy’s uncle, identified as Rohan Bag, on charges of kidnap and murder.
According to police reports, the boy, named Rehan, was allegedly abducted and subsequently murdered by his uncle, Rohan Bag, who confessed to strangling him to death. To mislead authorities, the accused reportedly called the family and demanded a ransom of Rs 2.3 lakh.
The incident unfolded on April 14, when Rehan was reported missing from his home. Following a complaint by the parents, an investigation was launched.
After arresting the uncle, police conducted a scene recreation where they discovered the decomposed body of the minor. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Subsequently, Rohan Bag was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected. A case (166/24) under Sections 302 and 366 of IPC was registered.
During interrogation, Rohan confessed to his crime, stating that he killed his nephew after failing to extort Rs 3 lakh from the boy’s father. He buried the body near a creek close to the village before fleeing.
The police’s breakthrough came after the victim’s father handed over a threatening letter demanding ransom, leading them to investigate Rohan’s involvement further. Rohan was ultimately apprehended and admitted to the kidnapping and murder during questioning.
