Major Dacoity Gang Busted in Bhubaneswar’s Patia; 5 Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Infocity police on Thursday apprehended a notorious dacoity gang near a playground in Patia, Bhubaneswar. The gang, allegedly planning to target a liquor shop, was intercepted by law enforcement, leading to the arrest of five individuals, confirmed a senior official today.

Among the detained suspects are key accused SK Islam alias Kadam, along with his four associates: Romy Nayak, Kartik Behera, Jitendra Samal, and K Sibaji. Kadam, a known history-sheeter, carries a staggering record of 48 criminal cases pending against him across various police stations in the State Capital and beyond.

According to police, Kadam’s criminal activities often resumed upon his release from jail custody on bail. His repertoire includes involvement in dacoity, snatching, and theft. Upon the arrests, police recovered two crowbars, a knife, a liquor bottle, and assorted contraband items from the possession of the apprehended individuals.

The investigation uncovered that the gang operated by residing in rented houses across Bhubaneswar, targeting various locations for their criminal activities. To deter future offences, the Zone VI Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) confirmed registering a case under Section 110 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) against the arrested individuals.
