Hirakud Dam to Open 5 Sluice Gates on Sunday, Low-Lying Areas Alerted

Sambalpur: Hirakud dam will release the first phase of flood water from its reservoir on July 23. According to reports, five sluice gates will be opened initially.

As there are chances of flooding, authorities have alerted the people living in low-lying areas. All have been warned to refrain from moving on the banks of the Mahanadi river during the opening of the sluice gates.

Due to continuous rains in the upper end, the water level of Hirakud Dam’s reservoir is increasing. The water level of the Hirakud reservoir stands at 614.08 ft. The current inflow of water into the dam is 92,774 cusecs while the outflow is 40,615 cusecs.
