India’s First Fully Accessible Indoor Navigation App Launched

New Delhi: Union Minister Dr Virendra Kumar on Tuesday launched India’s first Indoor Navigation Application at the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (PDUNIPPD) in New Delhi. Developed by CURE India in collaboration with Maitreyi College, the Canary Indoor Navigation App aims to enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities, particularly the visually impaired and elderly.

Dr Kumar, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, highlighted that this innovation marks a significant stride in creating inclusive spaces. “The Canary app is a testament to how technology can drive social change, enhancing accessibility for all,” he stated.

The app’s launch makes PDUNIPPD the first national institute in India to offer fully accessible indoor navigation, providing users the ability to navigate complex environments confidently. The developers emphasised that Canary fills a crucial gap in accessibility technology with its cutting-edge features.

CURE India, a leading organisation in disability prevention and rehabilitation, noted that the Canary app aligns with its mission to promote social empowerment and independence for all individuals, regardless of physical limitations.

This initiative underscores the significance of collaboration between educational institutions and organisations in addressing real-world accessibility challenges through technological innovation.
