ISKCON Temple Attacked in Bangladesh, Lord Jagannath’s Idol Targeted

Amid the violent turmoil in Bangladesh, an ISKCON temple in Meherpur in Bangladesh’s Khulna division was attacked and set on fire.

As per reports, several Hindu temples have been targeted during past 24 hours across Bangladesh.

ISKCON spokesperson Yudhistir Govinda Das confirmed the attack on the temple in Bangladesh’s Meharpur and said, “As per the info I have received, one of our ISKCON centers (rented) in Meherpur was burnt including with the deities of Lord Jagannath, Baladev, and Subhadra Devi. Three devotees who lived in the center somehow managed to escape & survived (sic).”

The religious minorities in Bangladesh are in panic after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster. The Hindu temples are facing attacks by the miscreants amid the ongoing unrest.

Chinmoy Krishnan Das, President of ISKCON Pundarik Dham in Chittagong, told India Today that three temples in Chittagong are under threat, but the Hindu community, along with some members of the Muslim community, have protected them so far.

Kajol Debnath, leader of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, told news agency PTI that at least four Hindu temples were targeted on Monday and suffered minor damages.

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, which promotes cultural exchange between India and Bangladesh, was damaged by the miscreants on Monday.
