Jailed AAP leader Sanjay Singh Disallowed to Take Oath as Rajya Sabha MP

New Delhi: Jailed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh was not allowed to take oath for his second term in Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar denied allowing Sanjay Singh to take oath with the plea that the House’s privileges committee is looking into the matter.

In July 2023, Sanjay Singh was suspended from Rajya Sabha for violating directives of the Chair. In October 2023, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case. He is now in judicial custody.

On Saturday, a Delhi court permitted him to take oath as Rajya Sabha MP on Monday.

In January 2024, Sanjay Singh was elected unopposed for his second term in the Rajya Sabha. He was earlier elected as a Rajya Sabha MP in 2018.

Along with Sanjay Singh, AAP’s Swati Maliwal and Narain Dass Gupta were elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha. They took oath in the House on January 31.
