Jolt for Jagan’s YSRCP, 2 Rajya Sabha MPs Resign, Set to Join TDP

Amravati: The YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP faced a major jolt as its two Rajya Sabha MPs resigned from the party and their membership in the Upper House.

According to reports, Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha Jagdeep Dhankhar has accepted their resignation.

The two YSRCP MPs are Mopidevi Venkataramana and Beda Mastan Rao. Venkataramana’s tenure in Rajya Sabha was to end in June 2026 and Rao was to continue in the Upper House till June 2028.

Both of them are expected to join the N Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP which returned to power in Andhra Pradesh with a landslide victory.

These two leaders recently met TDP chief and Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu. They are likely to be re-elected as Rajya Sabha MPs as TDP members. It will reopen TDP’s account in the Upper House, where it has no members since 2019.

With these resignations, YSRCP has nine MPs in the Upper House and four in the Lok Sabha. This is also good news for TDP because

Rao was earlier a TDP MLA. He joined the YSRCP in 2019. Venkataramana, a two time MLA was a Congress member and was a state minister in the government of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s father, late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
