Karnataka Guv Approves Prosecution of CM Siddaramaiah in Mysuru Land Scam Case

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot on Saturday gave his nod to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged scam in allocating land from the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Governor’s permission is required to prosecute a Chief Minister.

The Governor also directed RTI activist TJ Abraham, who revealed the ‘MUDA scam’, to meet him at Raj Bhavan on Saturday afternoon.

Siddaramaiah is likely to challenge the Governor’s permission for prosecution in court.

The MUDA scam allegations have become a major political controversy in Karnataka. It is alleged that Parvathi Siddaramaiah, the wife of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, benefitted from the irregularities in land allotments by the MUDA.

Abraham, the President of the Karnataka Anti-Graft and Environmental Forum, has filed a complaint alleging that Siddaramaiah failed to disclose his wife’s ownership of the said land in his 2023 Assembly election affidavit.

The Governor, on July 26, issued a show cause notice to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking explanation from him on the alleged scam.

In the first week of August, Abraham filed a Memorandum to the Commissioner of MUDA, seeking the cancellation and recall of the compensatory sites given to the Chief Minister’s wife, Parvathi.

Siddaramaiah has repeatedly denied the land scam allegations, saying that the land allocation to his wife was completed following all due legal procedures. According to him, he and the Congress party will fight them legally and politically.
