Kejriwal Resigns as Delhi CM; Atishi Chosen as Successor

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the three-time Chief Minister of Delhi officially tendered his resignation on Tuesday. He cited personal reasons for his resignation. He met Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and handed over his resignation.

In his resignation letter, Kejriwal did not elaborate on the specifics behind his resignation. He has been a central figure in Delhi politics since his first election win in 2013.

AAP leader and minister, Atishi has been selected to be the new Chief Minister of Delhi.

The legislative party of AAP chaired by Arvind Kejriwal at his Delhi residence on Tuesday chose Atishi for the post of Chief Minister.

After being released from Tihar jail on bail in the excise policy case, the AAP national convenor said on Sunday that he would resign within 48 hours and sought early polls in Delhi. He vowed not to sit in the chief minister’s chair till people gave him a “certificate of honesty”.
