Manmohan Singh Accuses Narendra Modi Of Degrading PM Office With Divisive Rhetoric

Chandigarh: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, accusing him of degrading the standards of public discourse and the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office with divisive and hateful speeches during the ongoing election campaign.

In a letter to Punjab voters ahead of the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections on June 1, Singh emphasized that only the Congress party can ensure a progressive, growth-oriented future while safeguarding democracy and the Constitution. He also condemned the BJP’s recently implemented Agniveer scheme, labelling it as “ill-conceived” and a reflection of “fake nationalism.”

“The BJP seems to value patriotism, bravery, and service only for four years, which is a flawed understanding,” Singh stated, urging voters to recognize the superficial nature of the BJP’s nationalism.

Singh expressed deep concern over the tone of the political discourse led by PM Modi, accusing him of making unprecedentedly hateful and divisive remarks. “Modi ji has engaged in the most vicious form of hate speeches, which are purely divisive. No prime minister before him has used such coarse and unparliamentary language,” Singh remarked.

Addressing a specific accusation by PM Modi, Singh clarified, “I have never in my life singled out one community from another. This false narrative, claiming I said Muslims have the first right to the country’s resources, is solely the BJP’s creation.”

He concluded by urging the people of India to see through the divisive rhetoric and unite against the forces threatening national harmony. “This dehumanising narrative has peaked. It is our duty to save our beloved nation from these forces of discord,” Singh appealed.
