MEA Serves Notice To Prajwal Revanna Over Cancellation Of Diplomatic Passport

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday issued a show-cause notice to Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, questioning why his diplomatic passport should not be revoked. This move comes after the Karnataka government requested the cancellation of his passport due to allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

This notice, said to be served via email, is part of the process initiated to revoke his passport.

Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been under scrutiny in a mass sexual abuse case. He reportedly left India on April 27, following the Lok Sabha elections in his constituency, and is currently believed to be in Germany.

The MEA is processing the Karnataka government’s request to cancel his diplomatic passport, citing provisions of the Passports Act of 1967 and related regulations.

Cancellation of Revanna’s passport would render his stay abroad illegal, potentially subjecting him to legal action in the country he is residing in. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has twice written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging prompt action to cancel Revanna’s diplomatic passport.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Karnataka government to investigate the sexual abuse allegations has also requested the MEA to cancel Revanna’s diplomatic passport after a local court issued an arrest warrant against him. Further, Interpol has issued a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ seeking information on Revanna’s whereabouts.
