Morocco Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 632

The death toll in the powerful earthquake around Marrakech in the African nation Morocco more than doubled on Saturday morning. According to Morocco government authorities the total number of deaths has reached 632 and 329 are injured. Morocco’s government said authorities are still assessing the damage.

The casualty figures are expected to increase further as the extent of damage becomes clearer in rural and hard-to-reach areas.

The earthquake struck Morocco late Friday night, killing hundreds of people and damaging buildings from villages in the Atlas Mountains to the historic city of Marrakech. Earlier Morocco’s Interior Ministry had informed that at least 296 people had died in the earthquake.
