Mother Arrested for Throwing Newborn on Road from 5th Floor in Kochi

Kochi: The body of a newborn boy wrapped in a parcel was discovered on the road in Kochi in Kerala on Friday.

The mother of the deceased newborn was arrested by the police as it was found that the baby was thrown out onto the road from the fifth floor of a flat at Panampilly Nagar in Kochi.

The police have also detained the parents of the arrested woman for interrogation. According to the police, the woman has confessed to the crime.

She was booked under the IPC Section 302.

The police said the parents of the arrested, who lived in the same flat, were unaware of her pregnancy and delivery. The woman delivered the baby in the early hours of Friday in her apartment bathroom and allegedly threw the newborn to the street three hours after the delivery.

Investigating police officials suspect that the arrested woman became pregnant after she was raped. Police have identified the man who is believed to have raped the woman and impregnated her.
