Naseerudin Shah to Take Legal Action Against Unauthorized Urdu Translation of Memoir in Pakistan

New Delhi: Renowned Indian actor Naseerudin Shah has expressed his disapproval and intent to take legal action against the unauthorized publication and sale of an Urdu translation of his memoir, “And Then One Day,” in Pakistan.

Taking to his Facebook page, Shah clarified, “I wish to state that I have nothing to do with this translation and intend to take legal action to stop its sale.” He further urged his Pakistani fans to “refrain from buying this book.”

“And Then One Day,” initially published by Penguin Random House India in 2015, chronicles Shah’s remarkable journey from his upbringing in a feudal hamlet near Meerut to his rise to stardom in Mumbai. The memoir offers candid accounts of his struggles, successes, love affairs, and failures in the entertainment industry.

This development comes after Shah sparked controversy in Pakistan last year by claiming that Sindhi is no longer spoken in the country. Following backlash, he issued a formal apology on his Facebook page, expressing regret for any offence caused and acknowledging his mistake.

Despite facing criticism, Shah humorously noted his newfound experience of being labelled as “ignorant” and a “pretend intellectual,” remarking on the irony of being mistaken for an intelligent person in the past.
