NCP Leader Apologizes for His “Ram Non-Vegetarian” Remark

Mumbai: Jitendra Awhad, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra Minister, who stirred a controversy by saying Lord Ram was ‘non-vegetarian’, apologized for his statement on Thursday.

Awhad, however, added that he “doesn’t speak without research”. Be he clarified that he does not want to intensify the issue.

On Wednesday while speaking at an event in Maharashtra’s Shirdi, Awhad, an NCP-Sharad Pawar faction leader, said, “Lord Ram was not a vegetarian, he was a non-vegetarian. Where would a person living in the forest for 14 years go to find vegetarian food? Is it correct or not (question to the public)?…”

His remarks invited sharp criticism from the BJP, and the party also filed a complaint against Awhad for making “objectionable remarks” against Lord Ram.
