Neeraj Gets Silver As Pakistan’s Nadeem Shatters India’s Gold Dream in Javelin Throw

Defending Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra had to be satisfied with a silver in the Olympics men’s javelin throw event, as Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem created a new Olympic record of 92.97m in Paris here on Thursday.

It was the first loss of 26-year-old Chopra to Nadeem in their last 11 meetings. He had won gold in Tokyo with a throw of 87.58m three years ago. In the Paris Olympics, Chopra won the silver with his second round throw of 89.45m.

Nadeem’s throw was the sixth longest in history 91.79m. He broke the earlier Olympic record that stood at 90.57m in the name of Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway, set during the 2008 Beijing Games.
