Newborn Stolen from Balasore Hospital Rescued from Jaleswar, 2 Detained for Interrogation  

Balasore: A newborn boy allegedly stolen from the maternity ward of the Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH), was rescued one day after its disappearance by the police. The rescued infant was handed over to his real mother.

Police have detained an ASHA worker and another woman in relation to the incident, for interrogation.

According to reports, the newborn baby of one Anita Dandapata, a resident of Baliapal block was stolen from the Balasore DHH on Sunday morning.

Anita Dandapata had delivered the boy on Saturday. After the delivery, the mother and the infant were in the maternity ward of the hospital. An ASHA worker along with an unidentified woman came to the ward and took away the newborn from Anita on the pretext of vaccinating him.

When the baby was not returned to the mother, the family registered a complaint at the local police station. Police investigation and through scrutiny of the CCTV footage revealed the identity of the ASHA worker and the woman.

Subsequently, a police team rescued the newborn from the Jaleswar area of the Balasore district.
