OAS Officer Arrested After Seizure of Rs 4.92 Lakh ‘Ill-Gotten’ Cash

Bhubaneswar: OAS officer Akhyamita Kartik was arrested by the Odisha Vigilance on Friday. She was apprehended with Rs 4.92 lakh cash near Jaring on Thursday evening.

According to vigilance sources, the OAS officer posted Golamunda Block Development Officer (BDO) in kalahandi district had allegedly received the cash as bribe.

The Vigilance sleuths intercepted her SUV near Jaring in between Bhabanipatna-Junagarh and seized the cash hidden in the vehicle. She was arrested as she could not satisfactorily account for the cash seized from her during interrogation

According to sources, she was earlier suspended for misappropriation of Covid funds while posted in Kosagumuda block of Nabarangpur district. While she was the Tehsildar of Gunupur, the Rayagada district administration had filed a police complaint against her for misappropriation of Red Cross funds.
