Odia Among 22 Regional Languages Allowed by CBSE as Medium of Education

Bhubaneswar: Odia is among 22 regional languages that will become the medium of instruction in the schools functioning under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated this on Saturday.

According to Pradhan, on Friday, the CBSE issued a directive regarding it. As per the directive, 22 regional languages, including Odia, will be the medium of education from standard I to XII in CBSE schools. Students will now be able to learn in regional languages.

The CBSE has taken this decision as per the new National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), said Pradhan.

Earlier CBSE had only two mediums of teaching languages; English and Hindi.

Referring to Odisha, the Union Minister said now CBSE schools will make provisions for students who want to study in Odia medium.

The NCERT has directed to prepare textbooks accordingly.

In a tweet, Dharmendra said the National Education Policy (NEP) accords importance to all Indian languages as learning in own mother tongue will enable the students to get clarity in any subject.
