Odisha CEO Orders Transfer of Cop, Excise Official Following Murder Near Polling Booth in Bargarh

Bhubaneswar: The Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha, on Friday ordered for transfer of two police officers in relation to the killing of a 35-year-old autorickshaw driver near a polling booth in Bargarh assembly constituency during voting on May 20.

According to reports, the CEO has directed the Odisha DGP and Excise Commissioner to transfer Bargarh Sadar police station IIC and Excise Station officer out of the district within 24 hours. It was found that the accused involved in the murder were in an inebriated state.

The murder took place on May 20 at a distance of around 100m from a polling booth at Sarsara village under the Bargarh Assembly constituency. The auto driver Biswanath Mirdha of Sarsara village was allegedly stabbed during a drunken brawl.

The voting in the village was disrupted for some time due to the incident.
