Odisha CM Dials Bengal CM to Streamline Potato Supply; Mamata Urges Majhi to Stop Torture of Bengal Workers

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi called up his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee on Sunday requesting measures to streamline potato supplies to Odisha.

The chief minister’s office, in a statement, said the potato supply to Odisha improved following Majhi’s talks with Mamata in Delhi in July last week. However, the supply constantly decreased, and Odisha faced a short supply of potatoes. Majhi urged Mamata to initiate measures so that the potato supply to Odisha was back to normal.

Mamata Banerjee also called up Mohan Majhi requesting him to take action on alleged incidents of assault on labourers from West Bengal in Odisha.

Banerjee expressed concerns over reports that several workers from West Bengal in Odisha are being beaten up and tortured by locals suspecting them to be Bangladeshis.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also urged the West Bengal labourers to return to their home state and look for opportunities available there.

As per reports, some workers from West Bengal were allegedly assaulted by miscreants at Nuagaon in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district who alleged them to be Bangladeshi nationals. Initial investigation suggested that the attackers were under the influence of alcohol.
